And outta nowhere…
…the Phillies find themselves only 2.5 games out of first place. In the blink of an eye, they pulled off the unthinkable, dominating a long series of games against high-caliber teams. Can they sustain this pace? Can they climb out of the cellar into first place before the all-star break?
Things seem to be coming together. Wolf and Padilla are pitching better. Abreu is on fire (he’s in the top ten in something like 70% of the stats, including home runs and batting average. The team is generating runs. They’re beating tough teams. This doesn’t seem to be a fluke…but you never know with these guys. As in years past, they could just as easily enter into a long, dreadful, paralyzing lull. We’ll see.
